What is an inclusive urban space that works for everyone—one that we should strive for?
An urban space that is good for everyone is human-scaled and accessible. It is a space that prioritizes the pedestrian over the car, and where every person, regardless of age, can feel equally safe, independent, and included. In other words, a space with clean air, safe movement, sufficient shade, and ample room both for children to play and for the elderly to walk.
Which building or area in Tallinn is worth paying attention to?
I would point to one project carried out in collaboration with LAUFEN products: the new Estonian Museum of Natural History.
Which part of a building is crucial and deserves more attention?
Here, we definitely need to talk about comfort and safety. When it comes to buildings, the most vital parts are those that are the most expensive and complex to repair or replace—namely the foundation, roof, and load-bearing structures. Great attention should also be paid to utility systems and ventilation, as they determine the building’s lifespan, safety, and daily maintenance costs.
