This year, the open doors weekend will take place from October 9 to 11. With the help of volunteer guides, visitors will get a look behind the doors of nearly 40 public buildings, sites under construction, and institutions. Open House Tallinn creates opportunities to visit places that are normally closed to the public. This year’s Open House Tallinn focuses on discovering architecture in various ways.
“Even in a city we consider well-familiar, there are places we have never set foot in. In this year’s programme, for example, a monastery, a tram depot, and a circular economy centre meet – each opening up Tallinn from its own perspective. We want to give a reason to deviate from the usual route and ask questions that cannot be answered merely by walking past a building,” says Aleksander Tali, producer of Open House Tallinn, about this year’s festival.
There are 13 new buildings in the programme. For the first time as part of Open House Tallinn, visitors will be able to access the following locations: Dominican Monastery Museum, Estonian Health Museum, Former Seppo Clinic Building, Hopner House, Tallinn Circuit and Administrative Court, Lasnamäe Circular Economy Centre, Pirita Leisure Centre, Pirita District Administration, Sakala 3 Theatre House, Tallinn Open School, Tallinn Business Incubator, Tallinn University of Applied Sciences, Vana-Lõuna Tram Depot.
Previously featured in the programme are BLRT Grupp, Drama School of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Bank of Estonia (Eesti Pank), National Library of Estonia, Swedbank Estonia Head Office in the Arter Quarter, ERR – Television House, Fotografiska, Hundipea District and Paljassaare Harbour, Kadriorg Park Orangery, Kalev Yacht Club, Joint Ministry Building, Palace Hotel, Pelgulinn State Upper Secondary School, Südalinna Theatre, Tallinn Art Hall, Tallinn Methodist Church, Estonian Academy of Sciences, Toompea Castle and the Riigikogu, Ülemiste Water Treatment Plant, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Office of the Chancellor of Justice.
The special programme includes special tours and events, which will be specified in the schedule later. The festival is free of charge, but some tours require pre-registration. Registration opens on September 9 at 7:00 PM (19:00). Open House Tallinn tours are available in Estonian, English, and Russian. Tours in Estonian Sign Language will take place again, and there will also be a descriptive translation tour at the National Library.
The festival is organized by the Estonian Centre for Architecture in cooperation with partners and supporters: Cultural Endowment of Estonia, City of Tallinn, Ministry of Culture, LAUFEN, Caparol, Schindler, VELUX, Kingivabrik, Raba, Selver, and Punch Club. Open House Tallinn is part of the international networks Open House Europe and Open House Worldwide.
