The ruins of the Bridgettine Convent on the banks of the Pirita River have long been a symbol of the area. In 1997, the decision was made to re-establish the convent, and an invited architectural competition was held for the design of the new buildings. The result is a modern interpretation of a monastic building, designed in accordance with specific liturgical rules and the unique character of convent life. The new convent of the Order of the Most Holy Savior of Saint Bridget was consecrated in September 2001.
The spatial program of the modern convent is organized around a central atrium. From the private part of the building, there is direct access to a small public church, designed with a refined and sensitive architectural language. As a sign of a new era, the complex also includes a guesthouse that is open to all visitors. The bell tower, with its simple and modest vertical accent, and the limestone finishing tie the contemporary building ensemble together with the adjacent historic convent ruins, forming a unified whole.
The architects of the buildings completed in 2001 are Ra Luhse and Tanel Tuhal.
