One of Toompea’s most imposing residences is located on Lossi Square, behind the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. The building, which belongs to the Estonian state, has housed the residence of the Ambassador of Germany since 1994. The building is also of great value from the point of view of the history of statehood – in the 1920s it was used as the residence of Konstantin Päts, the head of state of the Republic of Estonia, and from 1934 it housed the Ministry of Justice. During the Soviet period, the building housed the ENSV Ministry of Health. The classicist dwelling house was built in the early 18th century, and the building took its present shape and appearance in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The four-columned balcony in front of the main entrance dates from the 1920s. The last major renovation was carried out in 2020.
Meeting Point: in front of the building at Lossi plats 4, indoors in case of rain.
The tour will proceed through the historical fireplace room on the first floor and the reception rooms on the second floor. Visitors will also have the opportunity to visit the charming hidden garden reminiscent of the Old Town.
