For centuries, Toompea has been the centre of various powers on Estonian soil. With its multiple buildings, the Toompea complex allows a view of Estonian history from the Middle Ages to the Soviet era. The best-known parts include a surviving section of the medieval castle and the Parliament building. This year, we focus on the changes that took place in 1935, 90 years ago, when the authorities of the time noticeably altered the appearance and function of Toompea Castle. What was the vision of the State Elder and President Konstantin Päts for Toompea, and what was he able to accomplish?
