To make sure the architecture festival is enjoyable for everyone, we’ve put together a few simple guidelines every visitor should keep in mind.
1. Respect fellow visitors, volunteers, and organizers.
Even though this is an architecture festival, it’s the people who matter most – organizers, volunteers, and visitors alike. Our volunteers are the heart of Open House Tallinn: they’ve taken the time to bring you the best possible festival experience. Please be kind and show your appreciation.
2. Arrive on time.
Please arrive at least 10–15 minutes before your tour starts so that the group can depart on time. If the group is already full, we ask you to choose another tour or site. For pre-registered tours, latecomers may not be admitted.
3. Dress appropriately for the weather.
Estonian autumns can be chilly and slippery. Even in newly renovated or well-kept spaces, there may be slip hazards. We recommend weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes. Some tours take place outdoors or include many stairs – check the program details in advance.
4. Consider accessibility.
Not all buildings are accessible by wheelchair or stroller. Accessibility information can be found for each site on our website.
5. Be prepared for schedule changes.
Autumn often brings seasonal illnesses, and this can affect our volunteers as well. While we do our best to keep the program on schedule, tours may occasionally be shortened or rescheduled. Updates will be shared on the Open House Tallinn website and Facebook event page.
6. Photography.
Photography is permitted in most locations, but please respect the privacy of residents and other visitors. If restrictions apply, follow your guide’s or host’s instructions. Our volunteer photographers will also be taking pictures during the festival – if you’d like to be photographed, just let them know and smile!
7. Think of the kids.
Some tours and sites are more suitable for adults, while others are great for families and children. When attending with kids, choose programs that offer a pleasant experience for everyone.
8. Languages.
Tours are offered in four languages: Estonian, English, Russian, and Estonian Sign Language. Check the program to see which language your selected tour is in.
9. Environmental awareness.
We encourage you to travel between sites on foot, by bicycle, or by public transport. Bring a reusable water bottle and help us reduce waste.
10. Share your feedback.
If you have suggestions or notice something we could improve, please let us know – your feedback helps make the festival better.
11. Enjoy!
We’ve designed the program to suit a wide range of interests and tastes. This is a festival for city residents and visitors alike – a celebration of architecture and great public spaces.
